Opening .pps and .ppt files


the following steps that would assist you in opening the .pps Powerpoint files.

Please follow the below steps for opening .pps e-mail file attachments:

1) Click Start button,
2) Click on Run button and type CONTROL FOLDERS
3) You will receive a box named Folder options which has three tabs: General, View, File Types.
4) Select File Types,
5) Then under Registered file types, scroll down and select "PPS Microsoft PowerPoint Slide Show" option,
6) Then click Advanced,
7) Click on New button,
8) Type Open in the the Action: text box (just type open in the entry area)
9) In the Application used to perform action: field, type the following exactly:

For PowerPoint Viewer 2007, please type the below code:
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12\pptview.exe" "%1"

10) Uncheck the Use DDE box
11) Click OK, OK
12) Close the Folder Options dialog

Please follow the below steps for opening .ppt e-mail file attachments:

Enable Cookies IE7


To enable cookies in Internet Explorer 7.0. Please follow the steps provided below to enable cookies:

  1. Launch Internet Explorer 7.0 browser.
  2. Click on “Tools” button which is located on the upper right corner of the browser window.
  3. Click on “Internet Options” from the “Tools” menu list.
  4. In the “Internet Options” dialog box, select the “Privacy” tab.
  5. Under “Settings”, click on “Advanced” button.
  6. In the “Advanced Privacy Settings” window, click the box corresponding to “Override automatic cookie handling” under “Cookies” section to enable the option.
  7. Under “First-party Cookies”, select “Accept”.
  8. Under “Third-party Cookies”, select “Accept”.
  9. Check the box “Always allow session cookies”.
  10. Click on OK.
  11. Again click OK to exit.

If prompted, please restart Internet Explorer 7.0 for the settings to take effect.

Add page no and name in Header Word 2007


I would prefer that you follow the first method mentioned since it is easier in that method. Please follow the steps provided below to add the page number first and then add your name later:

  1. Launch Microsoft Office Word 2007.
  2. On the “Insert” tab, in the “Header & Footer” group, click on “Page Number”.
  3. Click on “Top of Page”, “Bottom of Page”, or “Page Margins”, depending on where you want page numbers to appear in your document.
  4. Choose a page number design from the gallery of designs depending on where to position the page number and your name in the document.
  5. Now to add content or to enter your name, please do one of the following steps:
·         To insert header or footer content before the page number, type the content, and then press TAB to position the content.
·         To insert header or footer content after the page number, press the END key, press TAB, and then enter the content.
·         If you chose a design from the Page Margins designs, click in the header or footer, and add the content that you want.

Now you may enter not only your name but any other content in addition to the page number in the Header in Microsoft Office Word 2007.

Smooth Scrolling in IE


Please follow the steps provided below to enable ‘Smooth Scrolling’ option:

  1. Launch Internet Explorer 6.0.
  2. Click on ‘Tools’ in the ‘Menu Bar’.
  3. Click on ‘Internet Options’.
  4. In the ‘Internet Options’ dialog box, click on ‘Advanced’ tab.
  5. On the ‘Advanced’ tab, under ‘Settings’ and under ‘Browsing’ section, click the box corresponding to ‘Use smooth scrolling’ to enable the option.
  6. Click on ‘Apply’ and then on OK.

Nancy, you may have to restart the Internet Explorer browser for the changes to take effect.

Now the scrolling of the pages in Internet Explorer 6 will be smooth.

Turn off Magnifier, Keyboard, Narrator in Vista


Disabling or turning off the three features which you have mentioned. Please follow the steps provided below:

Follow the steps provided below to go to Ease of Access Center:

  1. Click on ‘Start’ button.
  2. Click on ‘Control Panel’.
  3. Click on ‘Ease of Access’ and then on ‘Ease of Access Center’.
·         If the ‘Control Panel’ view is ‘Classic’, click on ‘Ease of Access Center’ directly from the list.
Alternatively you may also go to ‘Ease of Access Center’ by simultaneously pressing the ‘Windows’ key and the letter ‘U’ on the keyboard.

Please follow the provided steps to turn off the features:

I would like you to know that after performing all the steps provided below, the features will not be closed completely and you would need to restart the computer to completely turn off the features.

To turn off Narrator and Magnifier:

  1. In the ‘Ease of Access Center’, click on ‘Make the Computer Easier to See’ option.
  2. Under the ‘Hear Text and descriptions read aloud’ click the box corresponding to ‘Turn on Narrator’ to turn it off.
  3. Also under the ‘Make things on the screen larger’ click the box corresponding to ‘Turn on Magnifier’ to turn it off.
  4. Click on ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the windows.

As I have mentioned earlier, the Magnifier and the Narrator programs will not be closed after these steps. To turn them off completely you would need to restart the computer.

To turn off the On-screen Keyboard:

  1. In the ‘Ease of Access Center’, click on ‘Use the computer without a mouse or keyboard’ option.
  2. Under the ‘Type using a pointing device’ click the box corresponding to ‘Use On-screen Keyboard’ to turn it off.
  3. Click on ‘Save’ button at the bottom of the windows.

Finally restart the computer for the features to be closed completely and disabling them for Startup.
